Transmissions wouldn’t function right if it weren’t for transmission fluid. This fluid serves two important roles.

Whenever you shift gears the transmission fluid makes this feel seamless. Additionally, the fluid keeps the transmission cool and prevents it from overheating.

2) Maintains hydraulic pressure

The transmission fluid also provides the right pressure to transfer power between your car’s engine and the transmission.

When Should You Change Your Transmission Fluid?

Every car is different. We suggest looking at your owners manual for the manufacturer’s recommendations about when to change the transmission fluid. However, we can always provide suggestions when needed. It’s important to change the fluid regularly for the following reasons:

Metal chips off gears and gets into the fluid
Additives and detergents in the fluid will gradually deplete
Sludge and varnish can gunk up the fluid

Flushing Your Transmission

Every so often you should flush your transmission. When you bring your vehicle into our shop for a transmission flush, we will inspect your transmission pan for debris (you’d be surprised what we find in there), switch out the transmission filter, change out the transmission fluid, and check for signs of corrosion.

Is Your Transmission Leaking?

There are a lot of moving gears in your transmission – but we don’t need to get into all of that. What you need to pay attention to are any reddish fluids pooling up beneath your car when you park. This can indicate a transmission leak. While it’s probably not what you want to see, it’s always better to act quickly and take it into the shop than wait and see what happens.

When you bring your car into the shop, we’ll investigate the hoses, gaskets, and seals of your transmission until we find out what’s going on. Then, we’ll replace the faulty part with one that keeps your transmission running well.
